One of the most sensitive parts of man is his genital organs. Sometimes small lumps or bodies are developed on penis and one of them are known as pearly penile papules. Hirsuties papillaris genitalis is the medical terminology used for it and defined as small bumps or structure possessing flesh color which appear around sulcus or corona of penis. These small pearl like bodies encircle the sulcus of penis in one or more rows. Although their presence should not bother the patient as far as health is concerned, but surely are a reason of discomfort especially during sex.
Pearly penile papules are very common in men in young age particularly when they are in twenties. About 43% men are affected by this problem and most of them are uncircumcised. Another fact is that they might disappear themselves without any particular treatment, but in some cases it has to be observed that they may redevelop after some period. Pearly Penile Papules must not be misunderstood as genital warts which are entirely different.
Causes of Pearly Penile Papules
No specific reason is given so far for development of the pearly penile papules. But their presence in uncircumcised men is more as compared to the circumcised men. Pearly penile papules are also not a symptom of any sexually transmitted disease or any infection they are neither caused by non-hygienic attitude. Some people believe that sebaceous gland present in the skin working as grease glands sometimes become enlarged on the male reproductive organ and get blocked. These enlarged glands are filled up by creamy substance which is called sebaceous cyst and the lump becomes white. As a result, small spots appear around the rim of penis called pearly penile papules.
As a matter of fact, pearly penile papules do not cause itching, irritation or burning and are developed without showing any symptoms and their presence is ensured after their appearance. Therefore, it is not easy to say beforehand about the development of the problem. But if developed, patients are often anxious about their nature.
How to Diagnose It?
This situation is basically indicates the abnormality of penis tissues and is generally diagnosed by the appearance, but consultants advice must be taken as sometimes even experts are unable to recognize them up and wrongly take as genital warts. As told above, there are several kinds of lumps likely to appear on penis, but a physician can easily recognize and distinguish between pearly penile papules and other kinds. These are examined under dermatoscope.
Problems Caused by Pearly Penile Papules
Pearly penile papules are physically harmless and possess no specific danger to men’s health as these are neither infectious nor contagious. They are also not malignant or pre-malignant. These also do not include an ailment of sexually transmitted disease or other infection relating to this part of body. But social life remains disturbed in a manner that sex partners of the affected men may hesitate to get into any sexual relation with them as they might get afraid of taking pearly penile papules as an STD. Moreover, from cosmetic point of view, they do not seem acceptable to the sex partner as well.
